Oceanic Anoxic Events (OAEs) of Jurassic and Cretaceous age represent major perturbations to the global carbon cycle and, hence, of atmospheric CO2 concentrations and of global climate. The globally identified carbon-isotope excursions are considered as isochronous, which makes them important stratigraphic markers at a global scale. Stratigraphy, associated with expanded data availability and novel techniques, is crucial for a proper understanding of OAEs and their distribution in time and space. Within this context, we invite contributions that combine multiple stratigraphic analyses of Mesozoic OAEs in the rock record. The aim of the session is to provide a representative review of the state of the art in Mesozoic OAE stratigraphy, and to share new ideas for advancing our understanding of global carbon cycle.
