The Cretaceous Period is punctuated by intervals of major environmental change and perturbations of global biogeochemical cycles. Investigation of these events is based on accurate and integrated stratigraphy. The session is designed to bring together paleontologists, paleoclimatologists, and paleoceanographers who use a variety of tools (litho-, bio-, chemo-, magneto-, cyclo-, sequence-, and chronostratigraphy) to help decipher the sedimentary record. Greenhouse climate change is a major focus and relates to today’s changing Earth systems. Another emphasis is placed upon the definition of GSSPs and improvement of the numerical time scale. This session is organized by the International Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy (ISCS) of the International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) and is open to the Earth sciences community at large.
The proceedings of the session will be printed on an international journal.
